Getting a Cat?
Alex Jacques
Have you recently decided to get yourself a cat? People tend to love their cats and relationships between cat and man has been in existence for a long time, mainly due to cats’ affection towards nature, whilst still being independent and not requiring as much time as a dog.
Cat ownership is also about a whole lot of other things. You need: preparation, time, to be responsible, and provide the cat with the care it needs. At first you will need a couple of items before you bring your cat home. Collars are a good idea as they provide identification, although some cats hate wearing collars, in which case you could consider a micro chip. You may want to do this even if it does have a collar. Some other things you will also need include a water bowl as well as a food bowl, a litter tray, scratching post, grooming tools, toys, a bed, and a pet carrier.
A cat is a carnivorous animal, and this fact should be considered when planning its diet.. The food can be either moist meat chunks in sachets or tins. Or a biscuit mix. A cat will also need plenty of water, especially if it is being fed the dry biscuit mix.
As long as you have the essentials, you can then go out and buy your cat. Getting a cat into a new home can be a very stressful time for it. Your cat should adapt to its new environment at its own pace. Make sure he is placed in a small area or room along with all his necessary items such as bowls and litter box. The carrier door should be left open and you should allow him to make the decision to explore. You should also check on your new pet regularly as this tends to make the transition a whole lot easier.
Some important decisions will also need to be made when you are buying a cat. You have to determine whether you want your cat to be an outdoor or indoor cat, or a combination of both. You should have the risk factors in mind when you allow your cat to roam freely outside. A decision will also need to be made as to whether your cat should be declawed or not. Doing the right research on this will help you make the right decision.
Your cat may also need to be neutered around twelve weeks of age if you are not planning on having Kittens. This will be an asset to his health, along with the other required shots and jabs. Your cat also needs regular grooming. By knowing your cat, you should generally know when your cat is not at its best, for whatever reason – at this point, getting it to the vet is a priority, but it can be an expensive one. Ensure protection for your cat by investing in a special Pet Cat insurance. In the event that something should happen, you know you can afford to give it the best treatment.
